Olympus LS-10 Digital Voice Recorder Review
Filed Under Reviews | 1 Comment

The LS-10 is a digital voice recorder that records BETTER than CD audio. It’s true, very sensitive dual microphones that record WAV files in 24-bit 96kHz fidelity. Internally the LS-10 Olympus Digital Voice Recorders carry 2GB internal flash memory. This gives about 2hrs of recording in the WAV mode, but it can be bumped down to MP3 quality in order to lengthen the recording time. Additional memory – up to 8GB with SDHC memory cars can be added.
To get the audio files off your LS-10 Digital Voice Recorder just plug in the via USB and drag the files over to your computer for manipulation. The documentation that came with it claims that up to 12 hours can be recorded on one set of AA batteries.
The bass on the recordings I did were a little flat, but can be bumped up easily with a little EQ action.
The case itself is very rugged and made of metal. The digital interface on the LS-10 is very user friendly, intuitive and logical.
You can listen back through your recordings using headphones, or the built-in Dual 16mm round dynamic speakers.
All this in a 5.33 ounce package.
I do wish it had a color interface for something this pricey, but on the other hand I guess it doesn’t really matter – it’s audio for chrissakes.
So how does it work. I took the device to several different functions: A live concert at the Rocket Club in Asheville, NC, a street festival where my band performed, and at a local fundraiser where I recorded the art auction. In every case the LS-10 Olympus Digital Voice Recorders worked perfectly. Sometimes the ambient noise around got a little loud, but it seemed to be when I wasn’t being mindful of how I was holding it.
My favorite thing is that unlike several other recorders I tried, the LS-10 didn’t pop or crack when I turned the buttons on and off. Why aren’t other manufacturers doing something similar to the Olympus Digital Voice Recorders?
All in all, a great device and certainly a digital voice recorder that will stick with me a long time. I’d highly recommend it.

I agree with you about the color.. they should have a variety of colors to choose from. It is certainly a pricey device. Let me ask you something, did you find that the quality recorded was high? I have been looking around and still I am not quite sure about getting the Olympus one. Did someone recommend this product to you?
